Kitty Dale

Relic: Definition

  1. From the Latin reliquiae, meaning things “left behind”

  2. ‘an object, tradition or system from the past that continues to exist’

  3. a part of the body or something that belonged to a holy person’

Kitty Dale is currently researching how visual art can assist in breaking the silence and stigma surrounding long term effects of childhood sexual abuse. There are many ways childhood sexual abuse effects lives, ranging from affecting physical and mental health, interpersonal relationships, self-confidence, image, faith etc

As someone who has survived childhood sexual abuse, Kittys work is aiming to help break the silence about some of these issues, whilst at the same time finding her voice and telling her story, so that others in a similar situation may realise that they are not alone and that there is hope.

Within this context she is also researching the significance of relics, both within art and history, questioning what could be considered a relic, what role they may have within contemporary art and how she might incorporate them into her practice.
